Results of the Cros-Lex VEX Robotic Teams for the 2019-2020 Season
Cros-Lex Pioneer Innovators Have Reached New Milestones
by Charlie Jahn
The Pioneer Innovators are close to wrapping up another season of Vex VRC Robotic Competition. At the high school level, the competition was called Tower Takeover. Two of the five teams will be moving on to the state competition level at the end of February and at the beginning of March.
This year the teams worked in random pairs to stack plastic 7” x 7” cubes in their goal zone. The robots have sixty-six cubes with three different colors to select and move either to the goal zone or one of five high rise towers. Each cube is awarded one point if stacked correctly in the goal zone. If teams insert a certain color in one of the towers, that colored cube value is doubled.
Since November, five Cros-Lex teams competed at Cass City, Croswell, Harbor Beach, and Ubly. After the four tournaments, one of the middle school teams and one of the high school teams will move on to state level competition. This is the third time in four years that a Cros-Lex team is moving on to the state level. It’s the first time that Cros-Lex has two teams advancing to the next level.
Several students deserve special recognition for their hard work and dedication since September. They each spent numerous hours designing, building and training for the Thumb VEX Robotics Competitions. Middle school students include Taiton Hacke, Michael Kaatz, Jaylynn Maduri, Michael Maduri, Zachary Schell, and Taylor Sturat. High school students include Logan Caughel, Elad Caughel, Kristina Fleischman, Kaleb Hacke, and Jaccob Iles.
In addition, some students earned the privilege of competing at the state level. For earning first place at the 2019 Harbor Beach Competition on December 14, Michael Kautz, Michael Maduri and Zachary Schell will go on to compete for a national spot at the VEX Robotics World Championship event. Logan Caughel and Kaleb Hacke will also compete for a national spot at the state level for earning enough points in the skills portion of the past tournaments.
Congratulations to all Pioneer Innovators for their participation in VEX Robotics tournaments.
